Chairman and Managing Director
Driven by a passion for clean energy, S. Bhanot founded Staten Solar in 2008 after selling his last venture in the software field. Staten has since constructed over 25 MW of projects; Developed over 100MW project pipeline and evaluated/ invested in over 60MW of solar projects.
Sandipan holds an MBA from Hass School of Business, University of California, Berkeley and a B. Tech. in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi. He is also an invited Charter Member of TiE (www.tie.org) where he volunteers his time mentoring numerous startups that come to him for advice.
Sandipan spent the first 20 years of his career in the high tech industry creating managing, marketing and selling complex software systems to design and verify semiconductors and systems at companies such as Cadence and Synopsys.
In his spare time, Sandipan loves to read, listen to interesting podcasts, spend time with his family. cook and ponder the creation and meaning of this and other parallel universes.
Chief Financial Officer
Tom brings to Staten extensive background implementing financial processes and controls for private and public companies in the services and manufacturing sector. He has served as the CFO of publicly listed companies for over two decades. Prior to Staten, Tom was the CFO at Sigma Designs and prior to that Catalyst Semiconductors. Earlier in his career, Tom was controller, division controller, and finance and accounting manager for various well-respected companies including Sanmina Corp and NEC Electronics.
Throughout his career Tom has achieved profitable growth by developing strategic and operating financial plans that prioritize investments across multiple business units. He has created and scaled finance organizations, led the implementation of several financial systems, negotiated and led real estate transactions, led the investor relations functions and played a key role in several strategic financings. At Staten, Tom is helping build a world-class financial organization and processes that can support the company’s explosive growth.
In his spare time, Tom loves to drive, be with nature and take good care of his trees. He holds a Bachelors in Accounting from San Diego State University.
Director of Operations
Manish is the Head of Operations at Staten Solar. His responsibilities include Engineering, Procurement and Strategic Partnerships. He joined Staten Solar in May 2016 as Director of Strategic Partnerships to lead the newly formed Procurement department and develop and maintain vendor relationships.
Manish has 25 years of diverse management and engineering experience and has worked at both Silicon Valley startups and Industry Leaders such as Cisco and Avaya. He brings exceptional execution skills, combined with deep customer empathy. His passion is growth with quality.
In his last job at Avaya, Manish led the worldwide software team for Avaya’s Unified Messaging portfolio and was responsible for $50 million in annual revenues. Previously, he led the High Availability Infrastructure team in Cisco’s IOS group. Prior to that, he was instrumental in developing a common OS infrastructure and appliance platform for the Cisco Unified CallManager, which continues to be used in a wide variety of Cisco Communications & Collaboration products. Earlier, he was the chief architect of the LDAP Directory Services for the Cisco Unified CallManager.
Manish has a M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Kentucky, where he was the recipient of the Department of Computer Science fellowship and graduated with a GPA of 4.0. He completed his B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT (BHU).
In his spare time, Manish loves to travel, hike, cook and bake. He has been to all the 7 continents, including Antarctica. He has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and ascended Half Dome several times. He is also an avid skier.
Director of Project Management
Jorge was recruited into Solar in 2010, and discovered the gratifying work of helping people and the environment, igniting his passion for the field. At Staten Solar, he leads the Project Management team, collaborating with all disciplines in the company. In previous solar roles, he led procurement, inventory control, transportation and IT system integration with operations and accounts payable.
For the 20 years prior to joining Staten, Jorge worked for Compaq and HP where he successfully led global teams in most supply chain areas, as well as in project management of IT implementation of supply chain systems like SAP and Oracle, in Latin America, Asia and India.
A Texas A&M industrial engineering graduate, and a PMI PMP, Jorge has also been a consultant and trainer in Project Management and enjoys speaking at various Supply Chain events and Universities, he is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and had the chance to live in Mexico, Brazil, Singapore and the US.
When not working with customers and team members, Jorge enjoys travelling, snowboarding, sailing, and hiking.
Dr. Heber Concepcion
Head of Construction, California Solar Projects
Heber has been building stuff since he was four years old. His favorite toy as a child was his dad’s DeWalt drill which used to scare the living day lights out of his parents. But, Heber caught on to the right industry and since growing up, has built over 600MW of wind and solar projects across 19 countries.
While Dr. Concepcion is an academically recognized professional, he still loves to drive the construction machinery, the bobcats, rammers, excavators, backhoes, and cranes from time to time.
As a head of Staten’s construction team, Heber oversees the planning, procurement, sub-contractor management, scheduling, and construction of all solar projects in California.
Dr. Concepcion holds PhD in Environmental Management from Universidad del Turabo. He holds MS in Engineering Management of Construction and BS in Civil Engineering from Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. Dr. Heber loves teaching college students mathematics during his vacations.
Narendra Nath Batabyal
VP Corporate Affairs
N.N. Batabyal thinks that increasing access to energy is critical for ensuring socio-economic development in the world’s poor countries. He joined Staten India to help serve underprivileged people by increasing their access to Solar Energy.
N.N. Batabyal has a total experience of more than 25 years in multiple industries and has worked with European Companies like Icap Sira, Forbo Helmitin. Before joining Staten India, he was Company Secretary & Legal Counsel for PFIZER group Company (Capsugel) where he was responsible for Legal, Cross border transaction, compliance, and Corporate Governance.
He has managed IPO, Right Issues, Merger Amalgamation, Financing from Institution, Venture Capital, Business development, Project Implementation, Cross border transaction and is a fine blend of Legal & Finance with International Exposure. He has also travelled to Europe, South Africa, Bangladesh and Ethopia for various assignments.
He served on the Board of Directors of HLC, as Alternate Director to Medini of Icap sira in their joint venture in India and also in Labotron Instruments Ltd (which works for Lieca USA).
Mr. Batabyal is Fellow Member of ICSI and holds a LL.B degree from university of Calcutta and B.com (Hons ) From Burdwan University. He also holds certificate in personnel management and financial management from Jadavpur University . He loves to travel and explore the various cultures of this world.
He was born in Shantiniketan West Bengal, the Place of Rabindranath Tagore. The calm serenity and purity of Shantiniketan, where he grew up, helps him keep calm during complicated and stressful negotiations.

Director of Marketing
Doug, came to the solar industry with deep roots in classical brand management and big brand consulting. Specialized in the launch of new products, and new campaigns, his experience includes managing brands like Colgate toothpaste, or Palmolive soap in France and in Canada, and as consultant, launching IBM computer accessories and multiple campaigns for nonprofits in the US . Doug’s focus is on building the brand and the quality of customer experience. He graduated from Kenyon College with a BA in Political Science, and received his MBA from Portland State University in Oregon. He lives in Santa Cruz, where he sails and hikes Big Sur whenever he can.
