We are seeking candidates who are motivated to contribute their talents to making cost-effective solar energy an important part of the world’s energy mix. This position will be based out of our Bay Area, California office.

As a Director of Sales, you will lead a team of territory sales representatives to meet sales targets, maximize profit from all segments of the market and grow the business. This role is critical in the development and implementation of the sales strategy, including identifying and securing strategic accounts and successfully managing and growing existing accounts.

Basic Job function: 
This role provides a unique opportunity for a highly motivated and talented person to contribute to a winning team. The Director of Commercial Sales is primarily responsible for originating new business and closing contracts for commercial solar projects in all of the distributed generation markets. The Director of Sales position will be responsible for developing pipeline and achieving an annual bookings target. We are interested in individuals with an aptitude for and interest in ‘consultative selling’ in a rapidly growing, competitive, and dynamic marketplace. Candidates must have a strong understanding of large-scale, complex, and technical sales – solar experience and/or related energy background required. Understanding of Agricultural markets is highly valued, but also not required.

Primary job duties and responsibilities:

Put in place a sales process that can scale.

Prospect, identify, and communicate with high-level decision makers in order to create new leads and ultimately cultivate new client relationships.
Collaborate with sales operations, estimating, engineering and the project management team in the proposal generation phase.
Conduct site evaluations for potential customers.
Grow and maintain a large pipeline of opportunities and keep them up-to-date.
Report and inform management accurately on pipeline activity and timing.
Perform contract negotiations as the Staten Solar commercial lead with the customer’s decision
makers according to the guidelines established by Staten Solar.
Incorporate business strategy into key activities and prioritize accordingly to reach sales goals.
Willingness to follow all facets of the Staten Solar business development processes as a team player.
Stay abreast of all changes in the solar markets – including policy changes, competitor news, and market developments.
Work closely with Senior Management on strategic initiatives the company should be considering including new product selection, channel relationships, and new business ventures.
Attend all important industry trade-shows and seminars as identified by Management.

Summary of knowledge and skills: 
Minimum of 15 years of successful B2B, complex sales experience required.
5 years +experience in Solar Sales Management.
Solar PV experience and knowledge required.
Demonstrated ‘consultative’ selling experience.
Proven ability to manage projects under deadline with multiple internal resources.
Experience managing or selling to multiple stakeholders on the customer side.
Ability to quickly learn the technical aspects of solar PV systems required
Strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
Understanding and presenting financial analysis to customers (ROI, IRR, NPV, APR, etc.)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required; must be comfortable presenting to a variety of audiences as well as a clear and effective writer.
Excellent customer service skills required.
Excellent organizational and self-management skills.

Education: 
Bachelor degree required but Master’s degree preferred plus 5 years of experience in a sales management and/or sales operations related position.
